Needles Outlook – Acrylic and Modeling Paste on Canvas

24"x12" | Original Painting by Jeanette Johnson

2025

The twisting, turning drive along Needles Highway in Western South Dakota is a must-see! Tightly hugging the curves and hairpins of the mountainous Black Hills, each turn reveals new vistas and beauty that stretches for hundreds of miles. Needles Outlook is a 24x14-inch original completed in 2025 by landscape artist Jeanette Johnson. This vertical-format painting showcases the rocky landscape and coniferous forests of the Black Hills.

While driving along historic Needles Highway, you'll be tempted to stop at every single outlook, and you should! I was lucky enough to have a beautiful sunny day when I made the journey; you could see for miles as the trees and mountains faded blue into the distance.

Why this painting belongs in your space:

  • Skinny and tall – this painting is ideal for a skinny divider wall or as part of a grouping.
  • Spirit of the West – Combine with other Western-themed art to get the full depiction of cowboy towns and Wild Bill Hickock's aura (he was killed in a Deadwood, SD saloon about 50 miles from where this reference photo was taken).
  • Unframed – this piece is unframed but includes a wire hanger and painted edges, so you can hang it raw or find a frame to match your decor.
