The clouds and mist of a towering rainstorm sweep across the plains in Thirst of the Plains, a 24x18-inch original completed in 2026 by landscape artist Jeanette Johnson. This vertical-oriented landscape painting depicts heavy clouds at sunset and a streak of rain wrapped lightning.
 
Once I'm inspired by a reference image or a location, the moment can extend into a hours long painting session. This painting was so perfect in the moment of creation that I completed it in a single day. From sketch to texture to finished painting, all in 7 hours +/- time for breaks to pet the dogs.
 
All of us are familiar with the thunderstorms that roll over the hills, but this particular storm in Western Nebraska stretched for miles across the flat fields of the Great Plains.
